Removable spherical windscreen
LEONARD ball is in the tradition of removable front windscreens for use with interference tube-free microphones. Like all other windscreens for microphones sensitive to sound pressure gradient (Cardioid, Hyper-cardioid), the principle is to create a cavity around the capsule in order to reduce the pressure differences on either side of the membrane.
The first “skin” is made of a 3D fabric with selected porosity (Idem Zephyx/Piano/Pianissimo) for indoor use. A removable fur can be added for outdoor use.
Contrary to its big sisters (Piano, Pianissimo or Zephyx), the volume of the LEO is rather reduced and everything is a matter of delicate compromise between size, wind efficiency and acoustic transparency. Nevertheless, its diameter is 10cm (without fur), which allows it to maintain a “soft” sound degradation with regard to its wind efficiency. This Leo-20 model is for use with the Schoeps CMC6 preamp with a suitable capsule or any microphone up to 20.1mm in diameter.
